Death By Sink Drain

It's certainly been a Monday today! Actually, it's been a Monday since about 8 last night. I wake up, head in the bathroom as usual and step in a cold wet spot. "Oh Joy" I think... "Was it the Kitties or has DH simply lost his mind and missed the potty completely?" I smoosh a dirty towel around and forget about it. DH arrives from work and steps into a full blown puddle in the bathroom. Yep... it's official... we have a leak. Damn! Of course by now it's midnight and every towel and bath cloth stored under the cabinet is soaked through. Double Damn!

Welcome to my Plumbing Nightmare... Hold on to your seats, It's gonna be a bumpy ride.

We knew that this c. 1933 house would have some "personality problems" when we bought it 7 years ago. Little did we know that the house was a spitter. DH keeps telling me that if his cooking thing doesn't work out, he's gonna go into plumbing (and he's had plenty of practice over the last several years!). So, he comes in from class today ready to tackle the case of the leaky sink drain. One trip to Lowe's and (thankfully) $12 later there he was with his little plumber's crack shining under the sink battling the drain. First hour passes, we're doing good, Leak has been identified (the connection where the little stopper plunger thingy meets the drain pipe), cursing is at a minimun, hopes are high that it'll be a "quick fix". Hour two... DH has called the drain quite a few pet names, and the stopper plunger thingy is still dripping/spraying at us. Hour Three... I've decided to take a more active role and asked if maybe we should try just replacing the whole drain with the new one we bought at Lowe's, DH has stomped around some, given the drain a whole new list of pet names, said sink drain is sitting in pieces, Pizza has been ordered and I'm under the sink trying to figure out the whole pea trap configuration for myself. Hour Four... Pizza is half gone, DH is on phone venting, while I put the drain back together and hike out of the bathroom for cold pizza and luke warm soda. Aaaaah the life! Suspect locked up tight with no leaks in sight! I did ask him to tighten the connections though. :o)
